Small group lessons are designed to refine the technical aspects of playing a musical instrument. Students have the opportunity to receive more individualized attention than in the large group rehearsals. Students will receive constructive feedback on their performance techniques and receive instruction designed to encourage reflection and future progress. The acquisition of meta-cognitive skills eventually enables students to independently set and achieve their musical goals.
Each student has one small group lesson per week. Group assignments change once per quarter and new lesson schedules will be posted at the end of the week on the band bulletin board as well as in core subject classrooms. It is each student's responsibility to inform their teachers of all scheduled lessons. Since schedules are published early, students can avoid any potential conflicts by talking with a band director prior to the day of their lesson for assistance in resolving conflicts.
